He kupu. He hononga. He oranga.

He kupu. He hononga. He oranga.

Te reo Māori is more than words.

It carries stories, knowledge, identity and connection. It connects us to those who came before us, to the whenua beneath our feet, and to the people around us. For Lūmii, hauora is at the heart of what we do. We believe wellbeing is more than physical movement. It is about how we care for our tinana, our hinengaro, our wairua, our whānau and our connection to the world around us.

Te reo Māori is part of that connection.

You don’t need to be fluent to begin using te reo Māori. Start with one word, learn its meaning, and find a way to bring it into your everyday life.

Try choosing one of these kupu below to carry with you this week:

Kaha - strength

Hā - breath

Ora - life

Hauora - wellbeing

Whānau - Family

Whanaungatanga - relationships / connection

Mauri - life force / vital essence

Manawarōa - resilience

Hiringa - determination

Manawanui - Steadfast

Hāpai - support / uplift

Use it in a conversation. Share it with your whānau. Write it down. Teach someone else what you’ve learnt.
Because language grows when we use it, share it and keep it alive.
